The Prairie Garden Index by Subject

Click here to view the Index document ~

Here, at long last, is a searchable index of all the articles in all the editions of our publication since its beginnings in 1937. Similar to our five-year indexes but covering all editions, it is organized by some 30 subject categories and numerous subcategories. It lists the relevant article titles for each category, along with the author, year, and page number. The index is also searchable by keywords like “tulip” or author names like “Frank L. Skinner.”

To read the file on your computer, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, available free at get.adobe.com. To search the document, press Ctrl-F and enter your search term in the box.

You can use this index to discover articles on topics that interest you or to track down articles that you remember reading, but can’t seem to find again in your collection. If it turns out you don’t already own the edition that has an article you’re interested in, please check our Past Editions page to see if it is still available for purchase. We offer more or less limited quantities of most issues from the last 25 years.

If you are a researcher who wants to dive more deeply into regional horticultural history, this index can help you, too. You can use it to explore the complete collection of The Prairie Garden and its predecessors The Winnipeg Flower Garden (1937–1954) and The Flower Garden (1955–1956) held at the Manitoba Legislative Library. A collection covering the years 1937–2014 can also be found at the University of Manitoba Science and Technology Library. Eventually, we hope to create a searchable digital collection of past editions.

For their support and assistance in the compilation of this index, I would like to thank the Prairie Garden Committee and especially Lisa Jansen, committee treasurer from 2016 to 2018. If you have corrections or suggestions, please contact us at editor@theprairiegarden.ca.
